A plan for the weekend

A2 · Everyday life · 5 min practice · Fiction

Read a group’s messages and find out how they change their Saturday plans.

On Thursday, Nina sends a message to her friends, Ali and Rosa. “Would you like to have lunch in the park on Saturday? We can meet by the big gate at twelve. I can bring sandwiches.”

Ali replies, “I would love to come, but I work until twelve. Can we meet at one instead? I can bring some fruit.” Rosa agrees to the new time and offers to bring drinks. She also has a large blanket for them to sit on.

On Friday evening, Nina checks the weather report. It says there may be heavy rain on Saturday afternoon. She sends another message. “Let’s have lunch at my flat instead. The time is still one. Please use the side door because the front door is broken.”

On Saturday, Ali arrives with apples and oranges. Rosa brings the drinks, but she leaves the blanket at home. They put the food on Nina’s kitchen table. When the rain starts, they are already eating. After lunch, they play a card game together.
